Our Story

Hi, I’m Tammy, founder of Joyful Hearts Music.

Joyful Hearts Music was created from a love of music, teaching, and the joy that happens when families make Music Together®.

As a piano teacher with over 15 years of experience, I have seen how powerful music can be in a child’s life. But when I became a mom, I realized that even with my background in music, I did not always know how to naturally bring music into my baby’s everyday life. I sang to him, of course, but I found myself repeating the same nursery rhymes and searching for ideas online — while also wanting to avoid too much screen time.

That is what led me to Music Together®.

I immediately connected with the research, history, and intention behind the program. Music Together is built on the understanding that all children are musical, and that young children learn music much like they learn language: through immersion, repetition, play, and meaningful interaction with the grownups they love.

Through teacher training, I was also inspired by the richness of the curriculum. Music Together introduces children to a wide variety of styles, rhythms, tonalities, and musical traditions — including jazz influences, complex rhythms, and modes such as Dorian and Mixolydian. These ideas may sound advanced, but children do not need to understand them intellectually right away. They are listening, feeling, moving, and absorbing — building a foundation for future musicianship.

As a piano teacher, I have often wondered why some students seem to have such a natural sense of rhythm, pitch, and expression. Through this training, I began to realize that early musical exposure can make a meaningful difference.

At Joyful Hearts Music, our classes are warm, playful, and family-centered, while also being grounded in thoughtful music education. My hope is that families leave class with songs in their hearts, practical ways to bring music into daily life, and a deeper understanding of how powerful these simple musical moments can be.

I’m so glad you’re here, and I can’t wait to make music with your family!
